Bringing the Arts to the Underserved


Recently, the Community Foundation Serving Southwest Coloradogenerously awarded the PS Arts Council a $3,000 grant to implement a unique program that will bring the arts to underserved kids and senior adults in our community. 

Called Kaleidoscope, this exciting new program will serve Pagosa Springs "kids" ages 12 to 105!

The Scoop

  • PSAC will sponsor a creative workshop on the second Tuesday of the month, beginning in October.
  • Classes will take place 4-5:30 pm.
  • Each class will be taught by one artist.
  • Volunteers will be provided to assist teachers.
  • Classes will be held at the Pagosa Springs High School.

Calling All Artists!

  • We're looking for a variety of local artists to teach the classes in the Kaleidoscope program. All forms of art are welcome and no teaching experience is required. If you're an artisan and you have creative gifts to share, especially to those who typically wouldn't have access to them, we invite you to join us!
  • We ask instructors to donate their time. Grant funds will cover materials (as approved). 
  • Accepted teachers are asked to attend an Education Workshop/Reception on September 11th from 4-5:30pm. Because this workshop is important, we're unable to offer a teaching opportunity if a teacher cannot attend.
  • Artists will be asked to provide a lesson plan one week before the class. Never wrote a lesson plan? Don't worry - we're here to help!

Benefits of Participating

  • Artists who have never taught a workshop can build experience in this easy and non-judgmental environment, while helping kids and senior adults in our community. 
  • Teaching artists can promote their work and business through PS Arts Council's marketing efforts with local publications, radio interviews, printed materials, social media, and more.
  • Attend and be recognized at our Fall annual party.
  • Help spread the JOY of creativity!

How to Participate

  • Interested artisans should:
    • Select two preferred dates. Please note that dates will be awarded on a first come, first served basis, and also will be based on our ability to offer a variety of styles.
    • Application deadline: August 24, 2018.
    • Class options: October 9th, December 11th, January 8th, March 12th, April 9th, May 14th
    • Artisans should email the top two preferred dates and the following details to our awesome Kaleidoscope Program Coordinator, Jenna Gannon at jenmwaite@gmail.com.
      • Your name.
      • Your email, mailing address & phone.
      • Your website (if available).
      • A description of your style of art.
      • Any experience you've had teaching(teaching experience not required).
      • One sentence on why you wish to participate in theKaleidoscope program.
